Individual gifts make up 25 percent of the Mary and Leigh Block Museum's annual program budget. This funding provides the flexibility we need to stage innovative and thought-provoking exhibitions. Individual support made possible, for example, this year's wonderful and highly praised Sculpting in Glass, which featured renowned glass artists William Morris, Harvey Littleton, and Dale Chihuly — as well as emerging glass artists. Audiences came away from this pioneering exhibit, curated by School of the Art Institute of Chicago Professor James Yood, with laudatory praises about not only the incandescent beauty of glass art, but also the transformative power of this art form.
From television features to newspaper articles to magazine pieces, the Block Museum has enjoyed increased visibility. Yet, we remain true in our commitment to promoting the works of independent artists. Our pledge is to continue to produce the kind of thought-provoking, stimulating exhibits that audiences have come to expect from the Block Museum, and your cooperation and philanthropy will enable us to do just that.
Annual contributions are the life-blood of the Block Museum and provide for essentials such as daily operations, exhibitions, educational programming, and collections management (cataloguing, storage, and conservation).
